| Zakat al-Fitr It is a requirement for all Muslims to pay Zakat al-Fitr at the conclusion
of the month of Ramadan as a token of thankfulness to God for having enabled
him or her to observe the obligatory fast. Its purpose is a levy on the
fasting person. This is based on the hadith: Muhammad Rasulullah (SAW) said,
"The fasting of the month of fasting will be hanging between earth and heavens
and it will not be raised up to the Divine Presence without paying the Zakat
al-Fitr." To purify those who fast from any indecent act or speech and to
help the poor and needy. The payment of Zakat al-Fitr
entails the following:- Zakat al-Fitr must be paid each year before Eid al-Fitr,
the feast that follows the fast of the month of Ramadan, to
ensure that all the needy are able to celebrate the happy occasion.
- Zakat al-Fitr is paid by the head of the family for each
one of his dependents including small children.
- Zakat al-Fitr should basically be given as specific amount
of food. However, it could also be given as money (It is £3
for per person, per family).
- Missed Ramadan Fasts?
There are two types of missed fasts, for any days missed
through necessity, Fidya is payable and for any days missed
unnecessarily, Kaffara is payable.
Fidya (£3.00 per fast) - Kaffara (£190 per fast)
